Alwar (Rajasthan): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Rajasthan has apprehended a police constable along with a middleman in connection with a bribery allegation at Kathumar Police Station in Alwar district. The arrests followed a complaint alleging that the constable and an accomplice demanded and accepted a bribe to influence an ongoing police investigation.
Bribe Demand Linked to Case Relief
According to the complaint received on the ACB’s helpline (1064), the accused — Constable Rameshwar Singh (Constable No. 17) and a private individual identified as Niranjan Singh — allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from a complainant. They promised to provide relief in a pending investigation related to the complainant’s cousin’s case registered at Kathumar Police Station if the bribe was paid.
The complainant also named ASI Narendra Singh, claiming he was involved in making the unlawful demand, and the ACB has stated that his role is currently under further investigation.
ACB Verification and Trap Operation
Following the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau began a discreet verification process under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General Anil Kayal of the ACB Jaipur Range. After confirming credibility to the allegations, a trap operation was planned and carried out by a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravindra Singh from the ACB’s Dausa unit.
During the trap, Constable Rameshwar Singh and Niranjan Singh were caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant. The entire amount of ₹20,000 was recovered from Niranjan Singh, who held it at the time of arrest.
Legal Action and Pending Investigation
Following their arrest, the accused were taken into custody and are currently being questioned by the ACB. The bureau has indicated that a case will be registered under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 61(2).
Senior ACB officials, including Additional Director General of Police (ACB), Smita Srivastava, and Inspector General of Police (ACB), S. Parimala, are supervising the investigation.
