JAIPUR: Despite the Bhajanlal Sharma government’s vocal commitment to a “Zero Tolerance” policy against corruption, a major scandal has rocked the Rajasthan power sector. K.P. Verma, the current Managing Director (MD) of Ajmer Discom, has been officially named in an FIR filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (Bureau) regarding multi-crore scams during his previous tenure.
The Allegations and ACB Action
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered FIR No. 73/2026 on March 18, 2026, following a preliminary inquiry (PE No. 21/2025). The investigation reportedly found prima facie evidence of Verma’s involvement in two massive financial irregularities during his stint as ‘Director Technical’ at Jaipur Discom.
Despite being indicted in departmental inquiries and facing a criminal case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Verma was surprisingly promoted/appointed to the high-profile post of MD, Ajmer Discom—a move that has raised eyebrows regarding “political protection.”
Two Major Scams Uncovered
According to the investigation reports, Verma was an active member of the Corporate Level Purchase Committee (CLPC) involved in the following cases:
- The AB Enterprises Case: A firm submitted forged documents to secure a contract. Instead of blacklisting the company and seizing its security deposit, the committee allegedly returned the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) worth ₹3.37 crore, causing a direct loss to the state exchequer.
- The RC Power Projects Scandal: In this instance, tender conditions were allegedly manipulated mid-process. This led to an additional payment of approximately ₹237 crore over the estimated cost, violating established financial guidelines.
Political Influence Over Law?
Sources suggest that Verma’s “strong political approach” has kept him shielded from administrative action so far. While Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma continues to advocate for a graft-free administration, the fact that a “tainted” officer continues to hold a sensitive administrative position remains a point of intense public and political debate.
The investigative report by Expose Now poses a direct question to the state government: Will the MD be removed to ensure an impartial probe, or will political clout continue to trump the rule of law?
