Forest Officials in Jammu Under CBI Scanner for Alleged Corruption Charges

FIR filed after Range Officer and Incharge Forester reportedly settled for ₹40,000 bribe to process land demarcation.

JAMMU: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Jammu, has registered a Regular Case against two officials of the Forest Department for allegedly demanding a bribe to perform their official duties. The First Information Report (FIR No. RC0042026A0001) was filed on February 19, 2026, following a written complaint.

Accused Officials and Allegations

The case names two primary accused individuals from the Demarcation Division under the Office of the DFO, Jammu:

  • Harveer Singh: Range Officer.
  • Amit Sharma: Forest Guard, currently serving as Incharge Forester.

The complainant, Subhash Chander, a resident of Village Jungrail in the Rajouri district, alleged that the officials demanded an “undue advantage” of ₹50,000. This bribe was reportedly requested in exchange for marking his land located in Village Jungrail, Tehsil Teryath.

Investigation and Settlement

The CBI conducted a discreet verification of the allegations through Inspector Surjit Singh. During this process, it was revealed that the officials settled the bribe amount at ₹40,000.

The agency determined that the evidence gathered prima facie disclosed the commission of offenses related to criminal conspiracy and public servants seeking illegal gratification. Consequently, the officials have been booked under the following legal provisions:

  • Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
  • Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

Official Action

The registration of the FIR was authorized by K. Pradeep Kumar, Superintendent of Police, CBI, ACB, Jammu. The formal investigation into the matter has been entrusted to Inspector Vijender Kumar. The place of occurrence is noted as Jungrail, Rajouri, which is approximately 140 kilometers from the Jammu police station.
