CBI Jammu Registers Corruption Case Against Local Head Constable Over ₹13,000 Bribe Demand

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu has registered a Regular Case against Ashok Kumar, Head Constable posted at Police Station Gharota, Jammu, for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹15,000 from a local resident. The case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), for demanding undue advantage as a public servant.According to the First Information Report (FIR No. RC0042026A0002) filed on February 19, 2026, at 2:50 pm and formally recorded at 2:55 pm, complainant Shri Latif Hussain, son of Late Talib Hussain and resident of Village & Post Office Sarote, Tehsil Balwal, Jammu (UT of J&K), submitted a written complaint to the Head of Branch, CBI ACB Jammu.In his complaint, Latif Hussain alleged that Head Constable Ashok Kumar demanded ₹15,000 as a bribe to take action on a complaint that the complainant’s wife had filed at Police Station Gharota on February 10, 2026. The FIR states that the allegations were immediately taken up for verification by Inspector Subhash Kumar of CBI ACB Jammu.During the verification process, the accused reportedly negotiated with the complainant and reduced the demanded bribe amount from ₹15,000 to ₹13,000. The verification confirmed that the Head Constable had indeed demanded undue advantage, prima facie disclosing the commission of an offence punishable under Section 7 of the PC Act, 1988 (Amendment Act 2018).The CBI ACB Jammu has now formally registered a Regular Case and entrusted the investigation to Shri Lalit Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), CBI ACB Jammu (Badge No. 45391). No properties were reported stolen, and there was no delay in lodging the complaint.The FIR was recorded by Superintendent of Police K. Pradeep Kumar, who is also the officer-in-charge of CBI ACB Jammu.
