NEW DELHI – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a formal case against Major (Retd.) Dr. Ashish Shakya, a Medical Officer at the ECHS Polyclinic in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, for his alleged involvement in a bribery and criminal conspiracy scandal.
According to the FIR filed on March 15, 2026, Dr. Shakya is accused of entering into a corrupt arrangement with staff members of Felix Hospital in Noida, including Sumit Gupta, Rohit Aggarwal, and Bijendra Singh.
The investigation suggests that Dr. Shakya frequently referred patients to this private empanelled hospital without genuine medical necessity, receiving large bribes in exchange for these referrals.
The conspiracy reportedly came to a head in mid-March 2026, when Dr. Shakya informed the hospital staff that he had referred approximately ten patients following the Holi festival and demanded the immediate clearance of his bribe dues. He further indicated that these funds needed to be shared with both senior-level and lower-level officials.
Following coordinated communications between the accused parties, a meeting was arranged in Noida on March 14 and 15 for the delivery of the bribe money.
As a result of these findings, the CBI has invoked Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, which target the bribery of public servants and the involvement of commercial organizations in corrupt practices.
The case, registered under RC2182026A0005, has been assigned to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar for a full investigation into the actions of Dr. Shakya, the named Felix Hospital employees, and other unknown public servants involved in the scheme.
