NEW DELHI – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an athlete for allegedly defrauding the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) by using forged Aadhar cards to create multiple identities for sports participation.
The case, numbered RC050202650001, was officially registered on January 9, 2026, by the CBI’s Special Crime-II (SC-II) unit in Delhi.
The Accused and Allegations
The FIR names Sachin Poswal, a resident of Village and Post Office Aduki in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, as the sole accused.
According to the complaint filed by CBI Inspector Jitendra Kumar, Poswal is alleged to have:
- Generated multiple Unique IDs (UIDs) by submitting fake or forged Aadhar cards and false personal credentials to the Athletics Federation of India.
- Participated in various athletics events under the cover of these fraudulent UIDs.
Legal Charges
The athlete has been booked under the following sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023:
- Section 318: Cheating.
- Section 336: Forgery.
- Section 340: Using forged documents or electronic records as genuine.
Investigation and Oversight
The registration of the Regular Case was authorized by Richhpal Singh, Superintendent of Police, CBI, SC-II, New Delhi. The investigation has been entrusted to Inspector Shashank.
Copies of the FIR have been dispatched to key stakeholders, including the Chief Judicial Magistrate at the Rouse Avenue District Court (RADC), the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), and the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
