Jodhpur: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case against a former Station House Officer (SHO), a Sub-Inspector (SI), and several other police personnel in connection with allegations of illegally detaining young women overnight at a police station, preparing forged documents, and deleting sensitive video footage.
The action comes following directions from the Rajasthan High Court, which transferred the investigation to the CBI after serious allegations surfaced regarding the conduct of police officials during a raid conducted earlier in 2025.
According to sources, the case has been handed over to CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gaurav Singh, and the agency has already initiated a detailed probe into the matter.
Allegations Against Police Officials
The controversy relates to a raid conducted by the Kudi Bhagtasni Police Station in January 2025 at a house located in Sector-9, Jodhpur. Police had claimed that an illegal fake call center was being operated from the premises, allegedly cheating people online in the name of vehicle services.
During the operation, police detained a total of 12 individuals, including two young men and ten young women. However, later allegations emerged that several women were kept inside the police station overnight without any formal FIR being registered at that time.
The complainants further alleged that forged documents were prepared to justify the detention and that CCTV footage and other sensitive digital evidence were deliberately deleted to suppress facts related to the incident.
High Court Intervention
Following petitions filed by some of the detained women, the Rajasthan High Court took serious note of the allegations. Observing the gravity of the accusations against police officials, the court ordered an independent investigation by the CBI on May 8, 2026.
Based on the court’s directions, the CBI has now formally registered the case against the then SHO, the woman Sub-Inspector, and other unidentified police personnel for their alleged roles in the matter.
Charges and Investigation
The case reportedly involves sections related to:
- Criminal conspiracy
- Fraud and fabrication of documents
- Destruction of evidence
- Violations under the Information Technology Act
CBI officials are expected to examine police records, digital evidence, CCTV footage recovery possibilities, and statements of the victims and accused officers as part of the investigation.
The development has triggered fresh debate over police accountability and procedural violations in Rajasthan, especially in cases involving women detainees and custodial conduct.
Political and Administrative Reactions
Legal experts believe the case could become a major test for transparency and police reforms in the state. Opposition parties are also expected to raise the issue over alleged misuse of police powers and possible attempts to manipulate evidence.
The CBI investigation is likely to determine whether departmental lapses were isolated incidents or part of a larger pattern of misconduct.
