The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in Patna, has registered a regular case against an Associate Professor at AIIMS Patna for allegedly accepting significant bribes to favor specific medical suppliers. The FIR, filed on January 12, 2026, details a criminal conspiracy involving illegal commissions and suspicious financial transactions.
The Allegations: Kickbacks for Orthopedic Implants
According to the investigation, Dr. Prabhat Aggarwal, an Associate Professor in the Orthopedic Department at AIIMS Patna, allegedly misused his official position between 2022 and 2025. The source information reveals that Dr. Aggarwal entered into a criminal conspiracy with a local proprietor to secure illegal gratifications.
- The Bribe: Dr. Aggarwal is accused of collecting approximately ₹14 lakhs in cash as bribes or commissions.
- The Favor: The payments were allegedly made to ensure the use of orthopedic implants from specific manufacturing companies, namely M/s S.H. Pitkar and M/s Narang Enterprises.
- Financial Red Flags: Beyond the cash payments, the CBI noted several suspicious transactions in Dr. Aggarwal’s bank accounts, which suggest further “undue advantages” obtained during his tenure.
Individuals Named in the FIR
The CBI has officially named two primary accused in this corruption case:
- Dr. Prabhat Aggarwal: Associate Professor, Orthopedic Department, AIIMS, Patna.
- Shri Vicky Soren (alias Birendra Soren): The proprietor of M/s Gopal Enterprises, Patna, who allegedly facilitated the bribe payments.
Legal Charges and Investigation
The case has been registered under several stringent sections of the law:
- IPC Section 120-B: Criminal Conspiracy.
- PC Act (1988) Sections 7 & 8: Offences relating to a public servant accepting a bribe and influencing a public servant (as amended in 2018).
Pawan Kumar Srivastava, the Additional Superintendent of Police for CBI ACB Patna, authorized the FIR. The formal investigation has been entrusted to Inspector Shri Narayan, who is required to submit a report within a stipulated timeframe.
Copies of the FIR have been forwarded to the Director of AIIMS Patna, the Chief Vigilance Office, and the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in New Delhi for further administrative oversight.
