NEW DELHI – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a corruption case against an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police for allegedly demanding a ₹25 lakh bribe to settle a property dispute. The accused officer allegedly threatened to frame a legal consultant in a “fake case” unless the illegal gratification was paid.
The Dispute and Alleged “Brokerage”
The case originated from a complaint filed by Shri Prem Sood, a legal consultant residing in Kailash Colony, South Delhi. Sood has been involved in a long-standing property dispute with his brother, who resides on the floor above him in the same building.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), ASI Sunder Pal Singh, who first came into contact with Sood through the dispute, allegedly realized the complainant lived alone and began pressuring him to sell his property. The ASI reportedly introduced a buyer, Davinder Salwan, in 2025. While an agreement was made and ₹1.5 crore was paid, the deal stalled after Salwan failed to pay the remaining amount.
The Extortion and Bribe Demand
In February 2026, the ASI and Salwan allegedly brought a new buyer, Amit Verma, who offered ₹6.75 crores for the property. However, the officer then allegedly began a shakedown:
- Cancellation Fee: ASI Sunder Pal Singh reportedly threatened Sood on behalf of Salwan, demanding ₹2.5 crore in cash to cancel the previous agreement.
- Personal Bribe: The officer allegedly demanded an additional ₹25 lakh for himself to “settle” the matter with Salwan and ensure no legal action would be taken against the complainant.
- The Threat: When Sood hesitated, the ASI allegedly threatened to implicate him in a fake criminal case and have him arrested.
CBI Investigation and Findings
The CBI conducted a discreet verification of the complaint on February 7 and 9, 2026. While the complainant believed the officer was posted at the Greater Kailash Police Station, CBI investigators established that ASI Sunder Pal Singh is actually posted at the C.R. Park Police Station.

The verification substantiated the allegations that the officer was abusing his official position to demand illegal gratification. Consequently, a regular case has been registered under:
- Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), which pertains to public servants demanding undue advantage.
The formal FIR was authorized by Superintendent of Police I.B. Pendhari. The investigation has been entrusted to Inspector Bhupender Singh Yadav of the CBI ACB, New Delhi.
