New Delhi — The Central Bureau of Investigation’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBI ACB), New Delhi, has registered a fresh regular case against two beat staff members of Sultanpuri Police Station for allegedly demanding illegal gratification from a local resident in exchange for permitting him to continue or discontinue his online betting operations.
In FIR No. RC0032026A0014 dated 13 March 2026, registered under Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 read with Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), the CBI has named Shri Rajesh and Shri Ajay, both Beat Staff at PS Sultanpuri, Delhi Police, as the accused.
The agency has also indicated that the role of another beat staff member, Shri Vijay, may emerge during the course of investigation. The case was registered on the basis of a written complaint dated 12 March 2026 filed by Shri Mul Chand, son of Late Ramesh Chand, resident of House No. E-4/32-33, Sultanpuri, Delhi. A swift verification of the complaint was conducted on the same day by Sub-Inspector Harshit Verma of CBI ACB in the presence of an independent witness, Sh. Gaurav Sharma, Executive Assistant, CGST office, Delhi West.
According to the verification report, Rajesh and Ajay allegedly abused their official position and demanded illegal gratification (amount not specified in the FIR) from the complainant “to allow him to discontinue his online betting activities.” The CBI’s preliminary enquiry found prima facie evidence of demand of undue advantage by the two public servants, leading to the immediate registration of the case.
The FIR states that the complaint and verification report “prima facie disclose commission of offences” punishable under the relevant sections. The investigation has been entrusted to Inspector Santosh Kumar Singh, CBI ACB, New Delhi.
This is the latest in a series of vigilance cases being pursued by the CBI against Delhi Police personnel for alleged corruption and extortion. Online betting and gambling rackets have been under increased scrutiny in the national capital, with several police personnel earlier accused of providing protection to illegal operators in exchange for bribes.
Shri Mul Chand’s complaint was received directly at the CBI office, and there was “no delay” in reporting, as recorded in the FIR. No specific amount of bribe demanded has been mentioned in the publicly available documents, but the verification memo prepared during the proceedings has been kept on record.
The CBI has not disclosed whether the accused have been called for questioning or if any arrests have been made so far.
The probe is underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged conspiracy and to trace any possible involvement of other personnel from the Sultanpuri Police Station.
