BHUBANESWAR – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Bhubaneswar, has registered a criminal case against three officials of the Income Tax Office in Khorda, Odisha, for allegedly demanding a bribe from a local farmer.

The case was initiated following a written complaint filed on April 7, 2026, by Shri Subash Chandra Sahoo, a farmer residing in Barakuda, Khorda.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused officials—identified as Inspector T. Satyanarayan Rao, Clerk Bhimsen Barik, and Data Entry Operator Kumar Samaresh—demanded an “undue advantage” of ₹10,000 from the complainant.

The Allegation

The bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for deleting or deactivating a duplicate PAN card belonging to Mr. Sahoo from the Income Tax database. The complainant reported that the demand was made during interactions at the Income Tax Office in Khorda.

CBI Verification and Legal Action

Upon receiving the complaint, the CBI conducted a formal verification on April 7, 2026, led by Sub-Inspector Ayan Mishra. The verification process was carried out in the presence of independent witnesses, including managers from the UCO Bank branches in Jatni and Khorda.
The agency stated that the verification prima facie substantiated the bribery allegations.

The CBI has booked the three officials under the following legal provisions:

  • Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 (Criminal Conspiracy).
  • Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), which pertains to public servants taking bribes.

The case (RC0152026A0002) has been entrusted to Inspector Biswa Prakash Rout for further investigation. The FIR was authorized by Tanmaya Behera, Superintendent of Police, CBI ACB Bhubaneswar.
