CBI Books Two LIC Officials in Aurangabad for ₹4 Lakh Bribe Demand to Settle Death Claim

Pune: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Anti-Corruption Branch, Pune has registered a regular case (RC No. 1222026A0002) against two Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Field Officers/Development Officers — Shri Chakradhar Kadam and Shri Mahesh @ Mahendra Patil — both posted at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), under Section 61(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

The case pertains to criminal conspiracy and demand of undue advantage (bribe) of ₹4,00,000 for processing and settling LIC death claims worth ₹40 lakh related to six policies of the deceased policyholder.

Key Details from the FIR:

  • Complainant: Shri Bhagwan Vibhishanrao Gadve, son of nominee Smt. Parvati Vibhishanrao Gadve, resident of Kaij, District Beed, Maharashtra (a private person).
  • Deceased Policyholder: Late Dattatray Gangadhar Shinde (maternal uncle of the complainant).
    • Date of accidental death: 06.08.2025
    • Death claim applications submitted: October 2025
    • Total claim value: ₹40 lakh across six LIC policies
    • Nominees: Smt. Parvati Vibhishanrao Gadve (sister of deceased) and Smt. Samabai Gangadhar Shinde (mother of deceased)

Allegations in Detail:

According to the written complaint filed on 24.02.2026:

  • The accused officials visited the complainant’s residence on 20.01.2026 for document verification.
  • On 23.02.2026, during a WhatsApp call, Shri Chakradhar Kadam explicitly demanded ₹4,00,000 (10% of the total claim amount) as “undue advantage” for settling the claims. He stated that the bribe amount would be shared between himself and Shri Mahesh @ Mahendra Patil.
  • The complainant recorded the conversation on a Digital Voice Recorder (DVR) when he met Chakradhar Kadam at Beed on 24.02.2026 in the presence of independent witnesses. The recording corroborated the demand.
  • Kadam further instructed the complainant to pay a token amount of ₹1 lakh within two days and the remaining ₹3 lakh after the claim amount is received from LIC.

The verification of the complaint confirmed the demand of bribe as a motive for clearing the death claims.

Investigation Status

The case was registered on 26.02.2026 at 09:00 AM based on the verified complaint. No delay was reported in lodging the FIR. The investigation has been entrusted to Shri Pradip Deokar, Police Inspector, CBI ACB, Pune.

The FIR was registered and signed by Sarah Sharma, IPS, Head of Branch, CBI ACB, Pune.

This is a classic trap case registered by CBI after verification and recording of the alleged bribe demand. The investigation is currently underway.
