CBI Files FIR Against Post Office Employee in Ramgarh Corruption Case

RANCHI – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Ranchi, has registered a Regular Case against a Mail Overseer at the Head Post Office, Ramgarh, for allegedly demanding a bribe to facilitate a departmental joining.

The FIR, numbered RC0242026A0003, was filed on January 7, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).

The Complaint

The case originated from a written complaint submitted on December 26, 2025, by Ms. Lalita Kumari, a resident of Karma, Ramgarh. According to the complaint:

  • Background: Ms. Kumari served as a Grameen Dak Sewak (GDS) in the Palamu Division until she was transferred to the Head Post Office in Ramgarh.
  • The Incident: After being relieved from her previous post on December 18, 2025, she attempted to join her new post in Ramgarh.
  • The Demand: Upon visiting the office, Sh. Prabhu Munda, the Mail Overseer, allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 as “undue advantage” to process her joining.

CBI Verification and Legal Action

Following the complaint, SI Lavanya Yadav conducted a formal verification on December 27, 2025. The verification process prima facie established that Sh. Prabhu Munda had indeed demanded a bribe and had eventually agreed to accept a sum between ₹10,000 and ₹20,000.

The Government of Jharkhand accorded formal consent under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act, 1946, allowing the CBI to exercise jurisdiction and register the case within the state.

Current Status of Investigation

The investigation has been officially entrusted to Tapesh Pachauri, an Inspector with the CBI ACB, Ranchi. The FIR was authorized by Veronica Lakra, Senior Superintendent of Police, CBI ACB Ranchi.

Copies of the notification have been forwarded to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, and the Ministry of Home Affairs for further oversight.
