NAGPUR – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur, has registered a Regular Case against a clerk working with Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) for allegedly demanding a bribe to process a retired employee’s medical claim .
The FIR, numbered RC0282026A0001, was filed on January 9, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), which pertains to a public servant obtaining undue advantage .
The Complaint
The case was initiated following a written complaint by Sumit Kurzekar, a General Mazdoor at the Bhandewada PIG Mine, Kanhan North. According to the complaint:
- Medical Claim: Sumit’s father, Janardan Kurzekar, is a retired employee who had submitted bills for medical reimbursement.
- The Demand: The accused, Deepak Jaiswal, a clerk in the Area Welfare Office of WCL Nagpur, allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 to process and clear these medical reimbursement bills .
- Timeline: The initial demand was made in December 2025. The demand was reiterated during a telephonic conversation on January 2, 2026.
CBI Action and Investigation
Refusing to pay the bribe, Sumit Kurzekar approached the CBI with a request for legal action. A verification of the complaint was conducted, which prima facie established the illegal demand by the WCL clerk.
Following the successful verification, the CBI formally registered the FIR. The investigation into the matter has been entrusted to Rajesh Shinde, Inspector of Police, CBI, ACB, Nagpur.
