CBI Srinagar Books Ganderbal Patwari for Demanding ₹15,000 Bribe

SRINAGAR – The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Srinagar has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a local revenue official (Patwari) for allegedly demanding a bribe to process land records.

The Incident and Accused

The case was registered on January 28, 2026, against Shri Faheem Majeed, who serves as the Patwari for Mouza Gadoora in the Ganderbal District. The legal action follows a written complaint submitted on January 27 by Mohammed Aaqib War, a resident of Soura, Srinagar.

Details of the Bribery Demand

According to the FIR, the complainant alleged that Faheem Majeed demanded an initial sum of ₹20,000 in exchange for:

  • Issuing an Extract of Jamabandi (land ownership records).
  • Rectifying revenue records for a 15-marla plot of land situated at Mouza Gadoora, Tehsil Ganderbal (Survey No. 488/139).

CBI Verification and Investigation

Following the complaint, Inspector Firdous Ahmad Bhat of the CBI ACB Srinagar conducted a formal verification on January 28, 2026. The verification process established that the official had indeed demanded the bribe. During subsequent negotiations, the accused official reportedly agreed to accept a reduced bribe amount of ₹15,000.

Legal Action

The CBI has booked Majeed under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018 and the J&K Re-organisation Act 2019), which pertains to public servants taking undue advantage.

The case, officially numbered RC1232026A0002, has been entrusted to Inspector Malik Irfan-ul-Hassan for a detailed investigation. The FIR was authorized and signed by Makkhan Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, CBI ACB Srinagar.

Copies of the FIR have been forwarded to the Special Judge of the Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar and the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal.
