Senior Section Engineer in Orai accused of seeking ₹20,000 and monthly kickbacks to secure complainant’s employment
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Lucknow, has registered a formal case against a senior railway official for allegedly demanding a bribe from a contractual employee to maintain his job.
The Accused and Charges
The First Information Report (FIR), numbered RC0062026A0004, was filed on February 18, 2026. The primary accused is identified as Shri Bhagwan Singh Pal, who serves as the Senior Section Engineer (SSE – Electrical) at the TRD Office in Orai, North Central Railway (NCR), Uttar Pradesh.
The case has been registered under the following legal provisions:
- Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), relating to public servants being bribed.
- Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, pertaining to criminal conspiracy.
Details of the Complaint
The investigation was initiated following a written complaint dated February 17, 2026, from Shri Sidharth Gautam, a resident of Moth, District Jhansi. Mr. Gautam is currently employed as an operator on a contractual basis at the TRD Office in Lalpur, Kanpur Dehat.
According to the complainant:
- Shri Bhagwan Singh Pal demanded an “undue advantage” of ₹20,000 as a bribe to ensure the complainant was not removed from his job.
- Furthermore, the official allegedly demanded a monthly kickback of ₹13,000 from the complainant’s total monthly salary of ₹23,000.
CBI Action and Investigation
Following the complaint, the CBI conducted a discreet verification of the allegations. The agency stated that the verification substantiated the claims of a bribe demand by Shri Bhagwan Singh Pal and potentially other unknown individuals.
The case was officially registered by Sunil Dutt, Additional Superintendent of Police, CBI, ACB, Lucknow. The investigation has been entrusted to Shri Vikrant Tomer, Inspector, CBI, ACB, Lucknow, who will lead the probe into the matter.
