DHANBAD – The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case and launched an investigation against a Junior Engineer (JE) of the South Eastern Railway for allegedly demanding a bribe from a private company representative.

The accused, identified as Shri Ravindra Kumar, currently serving as JE (Electrical) at Bhojudih in the Bokaro district under the Adra Division, was booked following a formal complaint and a subsequent verification process by federal investigators.

The case originated from a complaint filed by Shri Arvind Kumar Roy, a Site Engineer for Daroga Pradhan Construction Private Limited (DPCPL). DPCPL is currently contracted for railway track doubling projects in the Adra Division.

According to the FIR (RC 03(A)/2026-D), Ravindra Kumar allegedly demanded an “undue advantage” of ₹15,000 as a bribe in exchange for providing an essential electricity connection to the company’s site office located at Bhojudih.

Following the initial complaint on February 27, 2026, CBI officials conducted a discreet verification of the allegations. The branch officer’s report confirmed the demand for the bribe, providing the prima facie evidence necessary to register a regular case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
The formal FIR was registered on March 16, 2026, under the direction of Superintendent of Police and Head of Branch, Bhanwar Lal Meena (IPS).

The CBI has entrusted the detailed investigation of the bribery trap and the engineer’s conduct to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP) Shri Priya Ranjan.

Copies of the FIR have been forwarded to the Special Judge for CBI Cases in Dhanbad, the Central Vigilance Commissioner in New Delhi, and the Chief Vigilance Officer of the South Eastern Railway in Kolkata for further judicial and administrative action.
