NEW DELHI – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a regular case against an Administrative Officer of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹4,00,000. The accused allegedly sought the money to influence a departmental inquiry in favour of two suspended employees.
Accused and Complainants
The case has been filed against Shri Devanshu Gautam, Administrative Officer at the MCD, Shahdara North Zone. The complaint was lodged by two MCD employees:
- Shri Mukesh Kumar Sharma, Senior Sector Assistant (SSA), who was placed under suspension on May 2, 2023.
- Shri Gajender Kumar, Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), suspended since March 28, 2024.
The Allegations
According to the FIR, both complainants are currently undergoing a departmental inquiry conducted by Colonel Shri Abhishek Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of the Shahdara North Zone.
The complainants alleged that Devanshu Gautam acted as a mediator and demanded a bribe of ₹4 lakh on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner. The bribe was reportedly intended to ensure that the final inquiry report would be drafted in their favour and forwarded to the competent authority for their reinstatement.
CBI Verification and Action
The CBI received a written complaint on March 27, 2026. A verification process was carried out on March 30, 2026, in the presence of an independent witness, an Assistant Manager from the National Housing Bank.
The verification report prima facie confirmed the allegations, stating that Gautam had indeed demanded the illegal gratification. Based on these findings, the CBI registered the FIR under:
- Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), which pertains to a public servant taking undue advantage.
The investigation has been entrusted to Shri Rahul Saini, Inspector, CBI, ACB, Delhi.
