Jaipur/Dausa : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against a Head Constable posted at Rajasthan Police in Dausa district for allegedly demanding a bribe from a complainant in exchange for taking action in a pending assault case. The accused official, identified as Ramkumar Meena, was posted at Lalsot Police Station and was reportedly investigating an earlier FIR related to a physical assault complaint.

According to the FIR, the complainant, Ramchandra Meena, a resident of Shrisukhchainpura village in Dausa district, approached anti-corruption authorities alleging that the police official demanded ₹5,000 as bribe to carry out a fair investigation and arrest the accused persons in the assault case. The complainant stated that when he requested action in the case, the Head Constable allegedly told him that no action would be taken unless the money was paid. He further allegedly assured that arrests would be made immediately after payment of the demanded amount.

Following the complaint, officials initiated a verification exercise as per anti-corruption procedure. A digital voice recorder and memory card were reportedly provided to the complainant to capture the conversation regarding the bribe demand. According to the FIR, surveillance was conducted near Lalsot Police Station where the complainant met the accused officer near a tea stall outside the police station premises.

During the verification process, the complainant allegedly recorded a fresh conversation in which the accused Head Constable reduced the demand from ₹5,000 to ₹2,000. The complainant informed investigators that he paid ₹1,000 immediately, while the remaining ₹1,000 was to be paid later. Investigators treated the recorded exchange as corroborative evidence of the bribe demand.

Based on the complaint and verification findings, a formal FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case is expected to lead to further investigation into the conduct of the accused official, including examination of audio evidence, witness statements, and the handling of the original assault case in which the bribe was allegedly sought.

The case has once again raised concerns over corruption at the police station level and the exploitation of complainants seeking justice in criminal matters. Officials said further legal action would follow as the probe progresses.
