Bharatpur: In a major breakthrough against extortion and organized crime, Bharatpur district police arrested a notorious criminal from Delhi within 24 hours of an extortion complaint lodged by a cloth showroom owner in the city. The swift action was carried out jointly by the Mathuragate Police Station team and the District Special Team (DST), leading to the arrest of the main accused who had allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh as extortion money from the businessman.
According to police officials, the accused had been threatening the showroom operator and attempting to create fear among local traders and businessmen to extort money. Acting promptly on the complaint, police launched an intensive investigation and tracked down the accused within a day of the incident.
The arrested accused has also been identified as a wanted criminal carrying a reward of ₹5,000 announced by the Jaipur Police Commissionerate. Police sources revealed that the accused has a criminal background and was involved in intimidating traders for illegal monetary gains.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior police officials as part of an ongoing crackdown on criminals involved in extortion, organized threats and activities aimed at disturbing law and order in the region.
Police officials stated that strict action will continue against anti-social elements attempting to spread fear among businessmen and residents. The arrest has brought relief to the local trading community, which had raised concerns over rising threats and extortion attempts.
Further interrogation of the accused is underway to ascertain whether he was part of a larger criminal network involved in similar incidents in Rajasthan and neighbouring states.
