NEW DELHI – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a criminal case against a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector for allegedly demanding a recurring bribe from a local businessman to allow the sale of water bottles at a major bus terminal.
The accused, identified as SI Neeraj, was serving as the Chowki In-charge of the Kashmiri Gate Bus Adda police post in Delhi.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on March 24, 2026, the officer allegedly demanded illegal gratification to permit the complainant to conduct his business without interference.
Allegations of Monthly Extortion
The case was initiated following a written complaint from Mukesh Kumar Gupta, a private individual residing in New Usman Pur, Delhi. Gupta, who operates as a wholesaler of water bottles at the Kashmiri Gate Bus Adda, alleged that SI Neeraj demanded a bribe of ₹10 for every “peti” (case) of water bottles sold.
Alternatively, the officer reportedly offered a fixed monthly bribe rate of ₹33,000.
In his complaint, Gupta stated that he was unwilling to pay the illegal amount and sought legal action against the officer for the demand of undue advantage.
Verification and Legal Action
Before registering the formal case, the CBI conducted a verification exercise on March 23, 2026. The verification was carried out by Sub-Inspector Shashant Jha in the presence of an independent witness, Dilip Kumar Yadav, an MTS from the Central Water Commission.
The agency reported that the verification process prima facie confirmed the allegations that the Sub-Inspector was demanding a monthly bribe based on the volume of water bottle sales.
The CBI has officially registered a Regular Case (RC0032026A0016) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), which pertains to a public servant taking or demanding an undue advantage.
The investigation has been entrusted to Inspector G. Deviprasad of the CBI ACB, Delhi.
