NEW DELHI – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police for allegedly demanding a bribe to help a jail inmate secure bail. The action follows a formal complaint and a verification process that confirmed the official’s demand for an “undue advantage”.

The Accused and the Allegations

The accused has been identified as Om Prakash, an ASI posted at the Paschim Vihar Police Station in Delhi. According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered on February 7, 2026, the officer was the investigating officer in a theft case.

The case originated from a written complaint filed by Shri Shahbaz, a resident of Dholpur, Rajasthan, currently residing in Raghubeer Nagar, Delhi. Shahbaz alleged that his brother, Arbaz, was currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with the theft case being investigated by ASI Om Prakash.

The Bribe Demand and Threats

The complainant alleged that ASI Om Prakash demanded a bribe of ₹25,000 to favor his brother in the bail process. Furthermore, the officer reportedly threatened that if the bribe was not paid, he would implicate Arbaz in additional criminal cases.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Shahbaz approached the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in New Delhi on February 6, 2026, seeking legal action.

CBI Verification and Legal Action

The CBI marked the complaint to Inspector Bhupinder Singh Yadav for verification. A discreet verification was conducted on February 7, 2026, in the presence of an independent witness. During this process, the CBI established that the ASI had indeed demanded ₹25,000 from the complainant to facilitate Arbaz’s bail.

Based on the verification report, a Regular Case (RC0032026A0007) was registered under:

  • Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), which pertains to public servants demanding undue advantage.

The investigation has been officially entrusted to Inspector Satyaveer of the CBI ACB, New Delhi. The FIR was authorized by R.L. Yadav, I/c Superintendent of Police, CBI ACB, New Delhi.
