Jaipur, Rajasthan: The ongoing corruption scandal in Rajasthan’s Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), linked to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), has taken a serious turn as questions mount over the delay in arresting alleged mastermind Sanjay Agarwal. Despite multiple arrests and intensified investigations, the key accused remains untraced, raising concerns about the effectiveness of enforcement agencies.

Mastermind Allegedly Behind Multi-Crore Scam

Sanjay Agarwal is believed to be one of the central figures in the alleged scam involving manipulation of tenders, fraudulent documentation, and illegal payments in JJM projects. Investigators suspect that a network of contractors and officials colluded to secure contracts worth hundreds of crores through forged experience certificates and manipulated bidding processes.

Earlier probes have already revealed that companies allegedly used fake credentials to win contracts worth nearly ₹960 crore, exposing the scale of the irregularities.

Arrests Made, But Key Accused Missing

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken action against several individuals connected to the case, including engineers, contractors, and officials. Multiple arrests have been made over the past few months, with evidence pointing to systematic corruption, inflated billing, and substandard execution of water supply projects.

However, despite these developments, the failure to apprehend Sanjay Agarwal has become a major point of concern. Officials have reportedly conducted raids and issued alerts, but the accused has so far evaded arrest.

Lookout Notices and Expanding Probe

In related developments, authorities have also issued lookout notices against senior officials in the case to prevent them from leaving the country. Investigators have indicated that the scam involved high-level collusion within PHED, including senior bureaucrats and influential contractors.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the role of multiple top अधिकारियों, with the investigation expanding to include financial and technical irregularities across several projects.

Legal Battle and Administrative Pressure

The case has also reached the judiciary, with petitions being filed in courts by some accused officials seeking relief from FIRs. Meanwhile, arrest warrants and legal proceedings continue to intensify, indicating the seriousness of the मामला.

The delay in arresting key suspects like Sanjay Agarwal has sparked criticism from opposition leaders and public activists, who allege that influential individuals may be receiving protection.

Impact on Jal Jeevan Mission

The scandal has cast a shadow over the Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship scheme aimed at providing tap water to rural households. Experts warn that corruption at this scale not only results in financial losses but also affects the delivery of essential services to the public.

Investigations so far suggest that substandard work, fake documentation, and bribery may have compromised several water supply projects across the state.

Demand for Swift Action

With public pressure mounting, there are growing demands for immediate arrest of all key accused, strict disciplinary action against involved officials, and recovery of misappropriated funds. Transparency advocates have also called for systemic reforms in tendering and monitoring processes to prevent such scams in the future.
