Udaipur (Rajasthan): In a major anti‑corruption action, the Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested two police officials — the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mandwa Police Station and a constable — for allegedly accepting a huge bribe of ₹8 lakh in Udaipur district. The operation highlights continued efforts by the ACB to curb corruption in law enforcement agencies.

Complaint and Allegations of Bribe Demand

ACB officials received a complaint alleging that SHO Nirmal Kumar Khatri and Constable Bhallaram Patel were demanding bribe money from individuals involved in cases at Mandwa Police Station. According to the complaint, the officers had initially sought ₹20 lakh to avoid naming complainants as accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, but later agreed to accept a reduced amount of ₹8 lakh.

Verification and Trap Operation

After receiving the complaint, the ACB carried out a discreet verification that substantiated the allegations of bribery. Based on the findings, an ACB team planned a trap operation and monitored the transaction.

On the day of the operation, both the SHO and the constable were caught red‑handed while accepting ₹8 lakh from the complainant. During the trap, authorities recovered ₹1 lakh in genuine currency and ₹7 lakh in dummy notes, which were used as part of the operation to establish evidence of bribery.

Legal Action and Registration of Case

Following their arrest, the ACB registered a case against the accused officers under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case is being thoroughly investigated, with further inquiries into the extent of the officers’ misconduct and whether other individuals were involved.

Officials’ Statements

ACB Director General Govind Gupta confirmed the arrests and stated that appropriate legal action was being pursued. The trap was executed under the supervision of ACB Deputy Inspector General Rameshwar Singh, with the Udaipur intelligence unit, led by Sonu Shekhawat, playing a key role in the operation.

Broader Anti‑Corruption Drive

This action is part of an ongoing campaign by the Rajasthan ACB to clamp down on corruption within public services, particularly within law enforcement agencies. Citizens are encouraged to report corruption through official channels, with the bureau assuring strict action against those found guilty of demanding or accepting unlawful payments.
