Jaipur, April 2026:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against an Indian Army-linked officer, Sudhanshu Suman, in connection with an alleged bribery incident at the Niwaru Cantonment area in Jaipur. The case has triggered a wider probe into possible financial irregularities and disproportionate assets.

Caught Accepting Bribe in CBI Trap

According to investigation details, Sudhanshu Suman, serving as an Assistant Garrison Engineer (AGE) with the Military Engineering Services (MES), was arrested after being caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. The amount was reportedly the first installment of a total demand of ₹90,000 for clearing pending construction bills worth approximately ₹35 lakh.

The CBI laid a trap following a complaint from a contractor who alleged harassment and illegal demand for clearing official dues.

Case Registered Under Corruption Charges

Following the arrest, the CBI formally registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Officials indicated that the case involves allegations of abuse of official position, demand for illegal gratification, and possible criminal misconduct.

The accused officer was responsible for technical scrutiny and clearance of bills related to construction work in military areas, giving him significant authority over approvals and payments.

Court Remands Accused to Judicial Custody

After initial interrogation, Sudhanshu Suman was produced before a special CBI court, which remanded him to judicial custody. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of the allegations and allows investigators more time to examine evidence and financial records.

Probe Widens to Disproportionate Assets

Investigators have now expanded the scope of the probe to examine whether the accused possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Preliminary findings suggest that within a short period of joining service in 2023, Suman allegedly acquired significant assets, including:

  • A bungalow worth around ₹1.5 crore in Bhagalpur (2024)
  • A premium SUV valued at approximately ₹30 lakh (2025)

These acquisitions have raised suspicions of illicit income, prompting a deeper financial investigation.

Searches and Seizures Conducted

CBI teams conducted searches at the accused’s residence in Jaipur and other linked locations. During these raids, officials reportedly seized:

  • Cash and financial documents
  • Property-related papers
  • Bank account details and digital records

Authorities are currently analyzing income tax returns, loan documents, and transaction trails to establish any mismatch between income and assets.

Niwaru Cantonment Under Scanner

The alleged bribery incident is linked to works in the Niwaru Cantonment area of Jaipur, where multiple infrastructure projects are underway under military supervision. Officials believe the case could uncover a broader pattern of corruption in contract approvals and bill clearances.

What Lies Ahead

The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not ruled out the involvement of other individuals, including contractors or officials who may have facilitated or benefited from the alleged corruption.

Legal experts suggest that if disproportionate assets are established, additional charges could be invoked, significantly strengthening the prosecution’s case.
