Jaipur: Nearly a year after Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced that hundreds of Mahatma Gandhi English Medium Government Schools would be converted back into Hindi-medium institutions, the government has failed to implement its own decision in a large number of schools. According to documents accessed by Expose Now, 346 schools that were proposed for conversion continue to function as English-medium institutions, exposing a significant gap between policy announcements and implementation.
Government Announced Large-Scale Conversion
Soon after assuming office, the BJP-led Rajasthan government reviewed the previous administration’s Mahatma Gandhi English Medium School scheme. Education Minister Madan Dilawar had announced that several schools would be converted back to Hindi medium, arguing that the previous conversions had been carried out without adequate infrastructure, teachers, and planning. The government maintained that the move was aimed at improving the quality of education rather than changing the language of instruction.
Expose Now Investigation Reveals Major Gap
However, the Expose Now investigation has found that 346 schools identified for conversion have not yet been shifted to Hindi medium. Despite official announcements and administrative orders, these institutions continue to admit students and operate as English-medium schools.
The findings raise questions about the effectiveness of policy implementation and whether adequate planning was undertaken before announcing the large-scale conversion exercise.
Administrative Confusion Continues
Sources in the education department indicate that the implementation process has been delayed due to multiple administrative challenges, including objections from parents, staff deployment issues, infrastructure constraints, and uncertainty regarding admission procedures.
