Jaipur: The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has taken disciplinary action against an Assistant Engineer (AEN) in Jaipur after serious complaints emerged regarding the supply of contaminated and dirty drinking water in the Sodala area. The officer has reportedly been placed under APO (Awaiting Posting Orders) following mounting public anger and intervention from local representatives.

Residents of Sodala had been protesting for several days over the irregular and polluted water supply, alleging that muddy and foul-smelling water was reaching households through government pipelines. Citizens claimed the contaminated supply posed a direct threat to public health, especially to children and elderly residents. Many locals also accused officials of ignoring repeated complaints and failing to take timely corrective measures.

The issue gained political attention when local MLA Gopal Sharma raised the matter strongly and demanded immediate accountability from PHED authorities. Following pressure from the public and elected representatives, senior department officials initiated an inquiry into the lapses and subsequently ordered action against the concerned AEN.

Sources indicate that technical negligence, poor maintenance of water lines, and lack of proper monitoring may have contributed to the contamination problem. PHED teams have now been directed to inspect pipelines, flush affected lines, and ensure the supply of clean drinking water in the area.

The incident has once again highlighted the recurring challenges in urban water management and the need for strict accountability in essential public services. Residents have welcomed the action but said long-term solutions are necessary to prevent similar incidents in future.

Further departmental investigation is expected, and additional action may follow if more lapses are found.
