Jaipur, Rajasthan – The Rajasthan Police have launched an investigation into contentious remarks allegedly made by senior Congress leader and former union minister Mani Shankar Aiyar at an event held at Kanoria College in Jaipur. The probe follows a police complaint and political protests over statements that opponents claim were derogatory toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi and potentially harmful to public sentiment.

📅 Incident and FIR Filed

The controversy erupted after Aiyar delivered a public lecture titled “The Future of India: Pseudo‑Hinduism or Secular Bharat?” on March 14 at the Kanoria College campus. A local resident, Babulal Tanwar, filed a complaint at Gandhinagar Police Station alleging that Aiyar used indecent language while referring to the Prime Minister during the event. The complainant also claimed the remarks were intended to incite discord and were circulated widely on social media.

In response, the police registered an FIR and began gathering evidence related to the allegations while assessing the seriousness of the case.

📣 Political Reaction and Protests

The statements drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). State leaders and party workers held protests in Jaipur, arguing that comments perceived as derogatory toward the Prime Minister were an insult to the nation’s dignity. BJP figures demanded that Aiyar apologise publicly.

The demonstrations saw participation from several BJP office‑bearers and workers, underscoring the political sensitivity of the issue in Rajasthan.

🗣️ Aiyar’s Response

Aiyar has denied making casteist remarks and said his comment was about the Prime Minister’s conduct and character rather than his caste. He also refuted allegations that he had made certain controversial claims about the Prime Minister’s background, insisting those statements were misrepresented after being circulated online.

⚖️ Next Steps in Investigation

Police officials are currently analysing video evidence and statements to determine whether the remarks violated any provisions of law related to public order or inciting discord. As the probe continues, political tensions around the case remain high in Jaipur.
