Barmer: In a major breakthrough in the PTI recruitment examination scam, Barmer Police has arrested a wanted accused who had been absconding for nearly two years and was carrying a reward of ₹15,000 announced by the Special Operations Group Rajasthan (SOG).
The accused had allegedly been evading law enforcement agencies continuously since the case surfaced and was considered one of the wanted suspects in the examination fraud investigation. Following the arrest, Barmer police informed the SOG headquarters in Jaipur, where further legal proceedings and interrogation will now take place.

Special Operation Launched Against Wanted Criminals
According to Chunaram Jat, the arrest was made as part of a special statewide campaign launched under the directions of the Rajasthan Police Headquarters and the Inspector General of Police, Jodhpur Range, to trace and arrest wanted criminals.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Nitesh Arya. A dedicated team of the District Special Team (DST) conducted intelligence-based tracking and eventually succeeded in apprehending the accused after sustained efforts.
Case Registered Under Rajasthan Public Examination Act
The case is registered at the SOG Police Station in Jaipur under provisions of the Rajasthan Public Examination Act along with charges related to criminal conspiracy and other serious offences connected to recruitment examination malpractice.
Police identified the arrested accused as Bhabhutaram alias Ranjit, son of Virdharam and a resident of Lakshiye Ka Tala, Bhooniya area in Rajasthan. Officials said he had remained underground for nearly two years and had repeatedly managed to escape arrest despite continuous search operations.
₹15,000 Reward Announced by SOG
Due to the prolonged absconding period and repeated failure to trace him, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, SOG Jaipur, had announced a cash reward of ₹15,000 on March 30, 2026, for information leading to his arrest.
Investigators believe the accused may possess important information regarding the network involved in the PTI recruitment examination scam, including possible middlemen, beneficiaries, and individuals connected to the alleged paper leak and cheating racket.
Crackdown on Recruitment Exam Frauds Continues
The arrest comes amid intensified action by Rajasthan Police and the SOG against recruitment examination scams that have sparked widespread outrage among students and job aspirants across the state. Several paper leak and recruitment fraud cases linked to competitive examinations are currently under investigation.
Authorities have stated that strict action will continue against all individuals involved in manipulating recruitment examinations and undermining the integrity of the public recruitment system.
The accused is expected to be produced before the court after interrogation by the SOG.
