Baran: In a major crackdown against narcotics traffickers and organized drug networks, Rajasthan Police has launched an unusual but strong action in Baran district by cutting electricity connections of alleged drug smugglers involved in illegal activities and power theft. Acting under a “zero tolerance” policy, the district police, in coordination with the electricity department, disconnected the power supply of 12 identified traffickers and imposed penalties worth nearly ₹4 lakh for electricity theft.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Baran Superintendent of Police Abhishek Andasu and targeted several notorious offenders operating in the Chhabra circle of the district.
Joint Police-Electricity Department Operation
According to SP Abhishek Andasu, local police stations in the Chhabra circle had been monitoring individuals allegedly involved in the trafficking of narcotic and NDPS substances for a long period. During the investigation, police received intelligence inputs suggesting that many of these accused were not only running illegal drug-related operations from their premises but were also stealing electricity in violation of power regulations.
The information was immediately shared with the electricity department, following which a coordinated action plan was prepared. Teams from the electricity departments of Chhabra and Chhipabarod, along with police teams from four police stations — Chhabra, Chhipabarod, Harnawadashahji and Sarathal — carried out simultaneous surprise raids at multiple locations.
During inspections, officials confirmed cases of illegal electricity usage and power theft. Electricity connections at the houses, shops and commercial establishments linked to the accused were immediately disconnected, and VCRs (Violation Case Reports) were issued as per rules.
