Retired Policemen to Receive Financial Aid for Serious Illnesses
Jaipur: In a major step aimed at strengthening the social and economic security of Rajasthan Police personnel and their families, the Rajasthan Police Welfare Fund Board took several significant and welfare-oriented decisions during its 26th meeting held at the Police Headquarters on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar Sharma, who emphasized that maintaining the morale of police personnel and ensuring dignity and support for their families remains one of the department’s highest priorities.
One of the most notable and historic decisions taken during the meeting was the extension of financial assistance benefits to retired police personnel for the treatment of serious and long-term illnesses. Until now, such assistance was largely limited to serving personnel.
Financial Support for Serious Diseases and Maternity Emergencies
The Welfare Board decided that retired police employees suffering from severe illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, and other prolonged medical conditions will now be eligible for financial assistance from the Police Welfare Fund.
In another sensitive and family-oriented move, the board also approved financial aid for police personnel facing extraordinary medical expenses during childbirth complications or surgeries related to maternity care. The assistance will be provided within prescribed financial limits to help families cope with emergency healthcare costs.
Officials described the decision as a compassionate initiative recognizing the sacrifices made by police families.
Relief for Families of Deceased Personnel
Demonstrating support toward families of deceased police personnel, the board approved the waiver of an outstanding loan amount of ₹5 lakh that had been sanctioned in the name of late Constable Ratandeep Meena of the 3rd Battalion RAC, Bikaner.
The decision is being viewed as an important humanitarian gesture by the department, aimed at reducing the financial burden on bereaved families.
Scholarship Rates Likely to Increase
The meeting also included detailed discussions on increasing and rationalizing the rates of technical and vocational scholarships provided to children of police personnel. The board considered proposals to standardize scholarship amounts and enhance support for higher education and professional training programs.
Officials stated that the proposal will undergo further examination and is likely to be finalized in the next board meeting.
Modernization of Canteens and Libraries
As part of broader welfare reforms, the Rajasthan Police Headquarters has also initiated plans to modernize police line canteens and libraries across the state. The proposed upgrades aim to provide improved facilities and better access to resources for police personnel stationed in various districts.
DGP Sharma directed officials to invite proposals for opening CPC (Central Police Canteen) facilities in newly created districts and police units, ensuring that personnel posted in remote areas can also access subsidized goods and essential services.
Focus on Transparency and Accountability
During the meeting, the board approved the income and expenditure report for the financial year 2025–26 and emphasized the need for a more transparent and accountable welfare administration system.
The DGP instructed officials to collect welfare-related infrastructure estimates from all districts and police training institutions so that facilities can be developed uniformly across the state. The initiative is expected to improve workplace conditions and ensure equitable distribution of welfare resources.
Senior officials present during the meeting included ADG (Police Welfare) Dr. Prashakha Mathur, DIG Kunwar Rashtradeep, and other members of the Welfare Board.
Welfare Measures Aim to Boost Police Morale
The latest decisions are being seen as part of Rajasthan Police’s broader effort to improve the quality of life for serving and retired personnel while creating a more responsive welfare mechanism.
Police officials believe that enhanced welfare support, educational assistance, healthcare aid, and modernization initiatives will contribute significantly toward boosting morale within the force and strengthening trust between the department and its personnel.
