Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Rajasthan has taken significant action by registering an FIR against a head constable and a private advocate in connection with allegations of bribery related to dropping charges in a police case at Vidhayakpuri Police Station in Jaipur.

Allegations of Bribe Demand for Case Manipulation

The accused Head Constable Rajkaran, who was handling a motor vehicle case registered under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act at Vidhayakpuri Police Station, allegedly demanded a bribe in exchange for removing the complainant’s brother’s name from the case and ensuring that no charges were pursued against him.

According to the complaint filed with the ACB by Sunil Kumar Sharma, a transport operator and resident of Jaipur, his truck was seized, and his brother Anil Sharma was charged in connection with the incident. When the brothers attempted to resolve the matter, the head constable reportedly demanded an initial bribe of ₹5 lakh for removing the brother’s name from the FIR and giving relief in the charge sheet.

Negotiation and Change in Bribe Amount

After negotiations mediated through a lawyer named Sanatan Soni, the bribe amount was later agreed upon at ₹30,000. The parties finally settled the bribe amount at ₹25,000, which the complainant claims was the final demand made by the accused for intervening in the legal process and ensuring the removal of charges.

ACB Verification and Evidence

The ACB conducted a verification process on the complaint, which included recording phone conversations between the advocate and the head constable. During these recordings, it was confirmed that both accused communicated about the bribe demand and the agreed amount. Based on this evidence, the bureau filed a formal FIR under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Charges and Legal Action

The FIR includes charges pertaining to demanding and accepting illegal gratification to manipulate a police record and influence the judicial process, which are punishable offenses under India’s anti-corruption laws. The case has now been taken up for detailed investigation by the ACB’s Jaipur unit, which is gathering further evidence and seeking to trace the movement of the accused and the exchange of funds.

Continued Focus on Corruption in Public Services

Officials say that strict action against corrupt practices — especially in law enforcement — is a priority for the ACB, which continues to act on complaints received from the public. Citizens have been encouraged to report any such malpractice, assuring them that complaints are verified discreetly and confidentiality is maintained throughout the process.
