Sri Ganganagar: A major political controversy has erupted in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district after an FIR was registered against sitting MLA Jaideep Bihani and nearly 20 of his alleged supporters over accusations of assaulting a government engineer, illegally confining him, obstructing official duties, and using caste-based abusive language.
The case, registered at Jawahar Nagar Police Station, also invokes provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, making the matter politically and legally significant.
According to the FIR, the incident is allegedly linked to a dispute involving a ₹555 crore infrastructure project currently being executed in the city.
Assistant Engineer Alleges Threats and Assault
The complaint was filed by Jaganlal Bairwa, an Assistant Engineer (AEN) associated with the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project (RUIDP). In his statement to police, the engineer alleged that tensions began during an earlier public meeting where MLA Jaideep Bihani allegedly threatened to summon him to his office and “teach him a lesson.”
As per the FIR, on April 30, 2026, PHED AEN Krishna Dhariwal allegedly called Jaganlal to the MLA’s public service center. When the complainant reached the location along with members of his team around 11:30 AM, he alleged that the MLA and his supporters attacked him.
The complainant claimed that MLA Bihani struck him near the eye using a heavy metal bracelet worn on his hand, causing serious injury and affecting his vision.
Allegations of Illegal Confinement and Demand for “Share” in Project
The FIR further alleges that the engineer was dragged into a room and illegally confined by the accused persons. During the incident, the complainant claimed that the MLA and his associates expressed anger over not receiving a “share” in an ongoing ₹555 crore project being executed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in the city.
According to the complaint, the accused allegedly assaulted the officer while pressuring him over the project and used caste-based slurs during the confrontation.
The allegations have triggered widespread discussion in political and administrative circles because the case directly involves a sitting legislator and a major public infrastructure project.
Claims of Evidence Tampering
One of the most serious allegations in the FIR concerns an alleged attempt to destroy evidence.
The complainant alleged that his white shirt became soaked in blood during the assault. He claimed that, on the MLA’s instructions, another shirt was brought from outside and he was allegedly forced to change clothes so that the blood-stained shirt could be removed and concealed.
The FIR also states that certain official government documents carried by the engineer were allegedly snatched and destroyed, resulting in obstruction of government work.
Police Register Case Under Multiple Serious Charges
Police at Jawahar Nagar Police Station registered FIR No. 0201/2026 dated May 6, 2026 under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including charges related to assault, unlawful confinement, obstruction of public servants, unlawful assembly, and interference in official duties.
The case also includes provisions under the SC/ST Act, including allegations of caste-based humiliation and atrocities.
The investigation has reportedly been handed over to Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishnu Kumar Khatri of the SC/ST Cell, considering the seriousness of the allegations and the involvement of a public representative.
