Jaipur: Panic gripped Rajasthan’s capital on Wednesday after a bomb threat targeting Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS Hospital), the state’s largest government medical institution, was received by the Jaipur Police Control Room. The threat prompted an immediate high-level security response, with police, cyber experts, and bomb disposal teams launching emergency operations inside and around the hospital premises.
In a swift breakthrough, Jaipur Police traced the threatening call to Haryana and detained one suspect from Mahendragarh district for questioning.
Threat Call Demanded Money
According to police officials, the Jaipur Police Control Room received a call from an unidentified number on Wednesday morning. During the conversation, the caller allegedly demanded money and warned that if the demand was not fulfilled, he would blow up SMS Hospital using a bomb.
Given the sensitive nature of the threat and the massive daily footfall at the hospital, authorities immediately treated the call as a serious security concern. SMS Hospital receives thousands of patients, attendants, medical staff, and emergency cases every day, making it one of the busiest public healthcare facilities in Rajasthan.
Massive Security Sweep Conducted
Soon after the threat was reported, police teams, intelligence personnel, and the Bomb Disposal and Detection Squad (BDDS) rushed to the hospital campus. Security checks were intensified across the premises, and precautionary search operations were conducted in critical areas including emergency wards, OPD sections, parking areas, and administrative buildings.
Authorities temporarily increased surveillance around the hospital to ensure public safety and prevent panic among patients and visitors.
Officials later confirmed that no suspicious object or explosive material was found during the search operation.
Accused Traced to Haryana’s Mahendragarh
Using technical surveillance and cyber tracking, Jaipur Police quickly traced the mobile number used for the threatening call. Investigators found the number’s location in Mahendragarh.
A police team, in coordination with local Haryana Police, conducted a raid and detained a suspect from the area. The detained individual is currently being questioned to determine the motive behind the threat and whether any larger conspiracy or extortion attempt was involved.
Cyber Cell and Intelligence Units Involved
Police sources said the cyber cell began tracing the caller immediately after the complaint was received. Technical data, call records, and digital evidence are now being examined as part of the investigation.
Authorities are also trying to determine whether the threat was intended to create panic, extort money, or disrupt public services. Investigators have not yet disclosed the identity of the detained person.
Security at Sensitive Locations Under Review
The incident has once again raised concerns about security preparedness at major public institutions, particularly hospitals and government establishments. Following the threat, security arrangements at sensitive locations in Jaipur are reportedly being reviewed and monitored more closely.
Police officials stated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in issuing fake threats or attempting to spread fear among the public.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
